VAN DALEN

CAROLINE

About

IMG_4197.JPG

My name is Caroline Van Dalen and I am a sophomore from Fairfield, Connecticut competing in the 3'3" Equitation.

Horses have been the biggest part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I can’t imagine a future without them. I want to ride in college because I’m eager to learn new skills, train with different coaches, and compete on a team that challenges and supports me. My ultimate goal is to go professional, and I believe riding at a Division I school will help me achieve that dream.

I’ve been riding for nine years and competing for eight, starting in leadline and working my way up through the levels. I’ve been fortunate to train with Jenny Martin-Rudaz, who has helped shape me into the dedicated competitor I am today. Some of my proudest achievements include placing in the Top 25 at the USHJA 3’3” Hunter Seat Medal Finals, finishing 28th out of 195 in the NEHC Junior Hunt Seat Medal Final, earning 6th in the Challenge Cup out of 64 riders, 5th place finish on the flat at the National Horse Show in the 14-15 Age Group Equitation, and winning the CHJA Children’s Medal Final with a score of 90. I finished 2024 ranked 3rd nationally in the USHJA Children's Hunter standings out of over 400 horses. For 2025, I have already qualified for Jump Seat Finals, Hunt Seat Finals, and NHS Hamel Medal Finals.

Hard work and dedication define me—not just in competition but in every aspect of my riding. I’m always looking for ways to improve, whether that means spending extra hours at the barn, riding as many horses as possible, studying past performances, or hitting the gym to be a stronger athlete. I thrive in a team environment and love supporting my teammates, whether it’s in the ring or behind the scenes. At my barn, I help run summer shows, organize pony rides for young riders, and assist with barn operations.

Outside of riding, I enjoy rescuing animals such as hamsters, hedgehogs, geckos and more. Additionally, I love , baking and running my dog-sitting business, where I’ve taught countless dogs agility and tricks. I’m excited for the opportunity to ride in college, make lifelong friendships, and push myself to the next level in both riding and competition.
